We present our eighth highlight for the 2026 A. Rose NFP Black History Month Community Spotlight Campaign, Myka Smith-Jackson!

Myka was nominated for the A. Rose Black History Month Community Spotlight Campaign because of the resources she provides to the community through her nonprofit organization, Building H.E.R. Through mentorship, Myka and Building H.E.R. began moving the mantle—empowering girls from the fourth grade and beyond to see themselves as honorable, educated, and respectable young women. Each conversation, each workshop, each shared story became a brick laid in a foundation of belief.

Building H.E.R. is more than a program; it is a growing community of mentors, peers, and advocates committed to ensuring no girl has to navigate her journey alone. With every young woman uplifted, the village expands. And what started in a dorm room continues to echo outward—shaping futures, strengthening voices, and building generations of confident leaders.
