We present our tenth highlight for the 2026 A. Rose NFP Black History Month Community Spotlight Campaign, Jilma Patrick, MD FACS!

 

Dr. Jilma Patrick was nominated for the A. Rose Black History Month Community Spotlight Campaign in recognition of her unwavering commitment to reducing health disparities by promoting breast cancer awareness and education among minority women. A board-certified, fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, Dr. Patrick has dedicated her career to advancing breast health and empowering women through education, advocacy, and compassionate care.


Originally from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Dr. Patrick earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Morgan State University, where she attended on an athletic scholarship for track and field. Her early research experience at the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute ignited her passion for breast cancer research and ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. She received her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in 2009, completed her General Surgery residency at the University of Florida–Jacksonville, and further specialized through a Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship at the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center at Northwestern University.


Since 2015, Dr. Patrick has served patients throughout the Chicagoland area, providing expert surgical care while continuing her mission to improve outcomes and expand access to quality breast health services.
