We present our seventh highlight for the 2026 A. Rose NFP Black History Month Community Spotlight Campaign, Kierra Sarfo-Kantanka, MPH!

Kierra was nominated for the A. Rose Black History Month Community Spotlight Campaign because of her advocacy work at the intersection of public health, storytelling, and community education. In Women with the Issue of Blood, she harnesses the power of documentary filmmaking to advance health advocacy, bringing visibility to the stories of Black women whose gynecological symptoms and conditions have too often been dismissed, downplayed, or neglected in clinical settings.

Women with the Issue of Blood is a documentary that weaves together intergenerational narratives of Black women living with chronic gynecological disorders, confronting medical racism, and facing gaps in health literacy. Alongside these lived experiences, expert voices offer medical insight and historical background. Anchored in her dedication to health equity, faith, and accountability to the community, the project opens pathways for honesty, restoration, and learning in spaces where these conversations have long been absent.

Kierra's impact extends beyond the screen through community-centered discussions, public health outreach, and creative initiatives that encourage Black women to speak up for their bodies and well-being. More than a film, the project serves as a public health strategy—intended to inform healthcare professionals, strengthen community knowledge, and reinforce that Black women are worthy of compassionate, respectful care.
